If you're capable of degree-level study but fall short of the entry criteria, a foundation year serves as a stepping stone – preparing you for entry into Year 1. The curriculum is designed to boost your confidence and equip you with the necessary skills for your chosen degree. Alongside Academic Practice modules that enhance your study techniques for higher education, you'll explore various humanities subjects. Upon successfully completing your foundation year, you'll advance directly to Year 1 of your selected honors degree. Career opportunities Successfully finishing the foundation year ensures seamless progression to Year 1 of your linked degree. BA (Hons) English graduates pursue diverse career paths, particularly in media and education, where their adaptable skills are highly valued. Alumni have secured roles as school and college educators, while others have ventured into sectors like banking, finance, manufacturing, and retail. Further study and professional development options are also available. Some graduates pursue postgraduate studies in creative writing at our Manchester Writing School, led by Professor Carol Ann Duffy DBE (Poet Laureate 2009-2019). Other students have undertaken specialized training for careers in law, public administration, management, and library sciences.

Eligible applicants will be asked to achieve a minimum overall grade of Pass as a condition of offer IB Diploma - Pass overall with a minimum overall score of 24 or minimum 72 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects Other Level 3 qualifications equivalent to GCE A level are also considered. A maximum of three A level-equivalent qualifications will be accepted towards meeting the UCAS tariff requirement. AS levels, or qualifications equivalent to AS level, are not accepted. The Extended Project qualification (EPQ) may be accepted towards entry, in conjunction with two A-level equivalent qualifications. Please contact the University directly if you are unsure whether you meet the minimum entry requirements for the course. INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE POINTS IB Diploma with minimum 24 points overall or 72 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects. If you plan to meet the Level 2 course requirements through your IB Diploma you will need to achieve Higher Level 4 or Standard Level 5 in English. IELTS SCORE REQUIRED FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 5.5 overall with no individual element below 5.5
