For students who show promise for degree-level studies but fall short of admission criteria, a foundation year serves as a stepping stone – preparing you for entry into Year 1. The curriculum focuses on building essential skills and knowledge to ensure you're ready for your chosen degree program. Alongside Academic Practice modules that enhance your study techniques for higher education, you'll explore various humanities subjects. Upon successfully completing your Foundation Year, you'll advance directly to Year 1 of your selected honors degree. Career opportunities Successfully finishing the foundation year ensures seamless progression to Year 1 of your chosen degree program. Alumni of BA English and Multimedia Journalism have pursued diverse career paths spanning media, education, and beyond – including finance, manufacturing, and retail sectors. The evolving digital media and creative sectors present particularly broad career possibilities in areas such as: traditional and digital journalism, broadcasting, content creation, media research, freelance writing, specialized reporting, news agency roles, PR, and government communications. Additionally, graduates may pursue advanced studies or professional qualifications in fields like law, public administration, management, or library sciences. Some have continued their education through postgraduate creative writing programs at our renowned Manchester Writing School, led by Professor Carol Ann Duffy DBE (UK Poet Laureate 2009-2019).
