Biomaterials Engineering is a dynamic program offered by Loughborough University's Department of Materials, leveraging our expertise in materials science and biological disciplines. This course provides foundational knowledge of materials science, engineering principles, and their biomedical applications, especially for human use. Students explore applications in healthcare, sports, lifestyle industries, and tissue regeneration. With global aging populations driving demand, biomaterials and medical device innovation represent rapidly expanding fields. This interdisciplinary program draws on specialized knowledge from our School of Sports, Exercise and Health Sciences and Chemical Engineering Department (Regenerative Medicine). Our Biomaterials Engineering curriculum combines theoretical foundations with practical industry applications valued by employers. The program covers all material and biomaterial aspects, including selection, production, evaluation, integration, and sustainability considerations throughout the product lifecycle.
