In our Aeronautical Engineering program, you'll have the opportunity to focus on cutting-edge subjects crucial to aviation's future, extending well beyond conventional passenger aircraft. The industry faces numerous thrilling challenges, from developing eco-friendly propulsion systems to advancing automation for unmanned aircraft performing diverse tasks. This program equips you with the skills to address current and future aviation challenges throughout your career.

Throughout your studies, you'll explore areas like Autonomous Systems, Sensor Integration, Artificial Intelligence, Acoustic Engineering, and both Experimental and Computational Fluid Dynamics. These specialized subjects build upon core engineering principles and analytical methods, preparing you for careers not just in aerospace and automotive industries, but across multiple engineering sectors.

Students gain hands-on flight testing experience through a specialized course involving up to four flights in a research-equipped aircraft. The curriculum includes comprehensive modules on Aircraft and Gas Turbine Design, where you'll apply theoretical knowledge to create detailed engineering solutions for specific design requirements. Your final year involves collaborative aircraft design projects and independent research tackling genuine engineering problems.

Our programs are delivered by the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering, where faculty members conduct groundbreaking transport research that informs our up-to-date curriculum. Students can opt for a paid industrial placement year (minimum 45 weeks). Our extensive industry network provides significant support in finding and securing these valuable opportunities.

While optional, we highly recommend the placement year due to its numerous advantages. Placement students typically earn over £17,000 annually, with many receiving permanent job offers from their host companies upon graduation.
