This program provides our most extensive overview of literary history while maintaining considerable flexibility in the second and third years. You'll cultivate essential analytical skills by applying diverse theoretical frameworks to interpret texts across multiple genres, allowing you to customize your English Literature degree according to your preferences. Foundational concepts and historical periods are explored through core modules that cover poetic language and form, linguistic studies, literary theory, narrative structures, and key eras in literature. Elective courses like Introduction to Film Studies and Digital Text Analysis explore literature's evolving role in the digital era. Available modules feature core studies of influential authors and literary movements, from Renaissance works to Victorian literature. While examining canonical figures like Shakespeare, Dickens, and Woolf, you'll also encounter marginalized voices that offer fresh perspectives, along with lesser-known literary forms. Our curriculum not only engages with traditional scholarly discussions about classic writers but also introduces emerging authors whose cultural, political, and literary importance is gaining recognition.
