LSBU ranks as London's leading modern university for world-class and internationally recognized research in General Engineering, encompassing Built Environment and Architecture studies - according to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014.
Our School fosters a dynamic and varied research environment through diverse projects, a blend of faculty members, post-doctoral researchers, and visiting scholars. Engineering and built environment research is conducted through specialized centers, with most academics affiliated to one or more of these. Research students typically join focused teams addressing specific challenges. Key research areas include: Sustainable Building Energy Solutions Research supervision is available in: Energy-efficient architectural design and building science, Climate change effects and building adaptation strategies, Building systems and sustainable energy technologies, HVACR systems and thermal storage solutions, Electrical systems including illumination, power distribution, and automation, Acoustic engineering in built spaces, Lifecycle analysis and facility management, Structural design and computational modeling, Transportation infrastructure, Water resource systems, Sustainable urban development, Community resilience studies, Built environment aging research, Eco-friendly construction practices, Resource optimization, Energy consumption tracking, Building performance evaluation, Urban renewable energy applications, Disaster preparedness in built environments
By nature, a PhD represents novel knowledge creation. Unlike taught programs, research degrees require students to independently guide their academic journey with advisory support.
