A PhD program focuses entirely on research. Each doctoral project represents a distinct advancement of your personal research initiative, carried out under the supervision of at least two faculty advisors specializing in your field of study.

You may undertake PhD research in any subject area offered by the University where appropriate faculty expertise exists to guide your project. Interdisciplinary research proposals are encouraged. The University offers a structured support system for research students, with close supervision and regular progress assessments. Distance learning options for PhD studies are also available through London Metropolitan University.

Qualification Requirements

You will be required to have:

a good honours degree from a UK university or equivalent (first or upper-second class), although applicants will usually tend to have obtained a master's degree before entry
Candidates with other qualifications are considered on their merits.

The University only offers supervision to candidates if there is adequate available supervisory expertise in the area of the research project.
