The most pressing moral and political challenges of our era revolve around human rights and global conflicts. This program examines these complex topics through multiple theoretical lenses and real-world applications. Led by renowned scholars specializing in human rights, conflict resolution, international affairs, political science, historical studies, philosophical ethics, and gender studies, the MA program prepares students to effectively promote peace, equity, and fundamental freedoms in practical settings.
Our Human Rights and International Conflict MA program investigates how nations and global institutions engage with human rights principles and their implementation. Students develop comprehensive knowledge of the ethical, philosophical, governmental, and legal dimensions inherent in global affairs and disputes, including contemporary tensions between Islamist movements and the international state system.
Participants grapple with the challenge of balancing absolute rights theories against pragmatic considerations of political accountability and national security. The curriculum also focuses on specific regional concerns, crises, and confrontations that require decisive intervention.
This graduate program delivers rigorous academic training in human rights and global politics while providing diverse elective options. After receiving thorough research method instruction, students culminate their studies by producing a 12-15,000 word thesis on a self-selected topic.
