Our Architecture (including foundation year) BA (Hons) provides an alternative pathway into university education if you don't meet the standard three-year degree entry requirements. This program also serves as an excellent option if you wish to develop your abilities before starting the bachelor's component, allowing you to discover your creative potential across various disciplines.
After finishing this four-year program, you'll gain RIBA Part 1 exemption and be ready to pursue Parts 2 and 3, ultimately qualifying for registration with the Architects Registration Board (ARB).
The foundation year of this architecture bachelor's program offers intensive training in studio and workshop techniques, preparing you for deeper architectural studies in the following three years. You'll develop critical decision-making skills for your projects, grow as a creative professional, and build confidence in presenting and defending your work.
During the foundation year, you'll collaborate with students from other foundation programs in our School of Art, Architecture and Design. While the curriculum won't focus exclusively on architecture, you'll have opportunities to experiment with diverse creative fields. The program emphasizes hands-on experience with technology, materials, forms, and processes to enhance your practical skills across the School's creative disciplines. You'll also participate in lectures and seminars exploring historical, contemporary, and cultural contexts relevant to various creative practices.
