Offered in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, this program merges fundamental physics with advanced theoretical physics and pure mathematics, forming a rigorous and fulfilling academic journey. You'll gain insight into how physics is built upon mathematical principles, such as the way quantum mechanics relies on Hilbert spaces as its mathematical framework.
The curriculum establishes mathematical fundamentals early on, gradually transitioning to theoretical physics applications in later stages. During the first year, coursework consists of one-third quantum physics and electromagnetism alongside two-thirds mathematics, with subjects like Quantum Physics and Electromagnetism, along with essential Mathematics topics including geometry, calculus, number theory, and probability.
Physics coursework intensifies each subsequent year. Core physics subjects are enhanced by theoretical physics modules and advanced mathematical studies like Group Theory and Differential Equations. Additionally, you'll participate in group research projects exploring cutting-edge topics such as machine learning, cryptography, and epidemiology.
