Why Choose Lancaster
Our MSc Statistics program, accredited by the Royal Statistical Society, masterfully combines mathematical theory with practical applications. During this 12-month course, you'll cultivate advanced statistical expertise while gaining hands-on experience. Graduates emerge fully prepared for statistician roles or PhD applications, equipped with robust mathematical knowledge, analytical prowess, programming skills, and critical thinking abilities developed throughout the program.

This MSc Statistics program represents nearly 25 years of excellence in training mathematics and statistics graduates. Its carefully designed structure ensures a gradual, comprehensive learning journey.

The initial term focuses on building foundational knowledge in classical and contemporary statistical methods, covering frequentist and Bayesian inference, generalized linear models, statistical programming, and effective communication.
During the second term, students choose from specialized advanced modules that balance theory, methodology, and application across diverse statistical fields. Academic advisors help students select modules aligned with their professional goals and academic interests.
The final term features an individualized research project. These projects adapt to each student's objectives: some deepen understanding of taught material, others explore new methodological areas, while many enhance data analysis capabilities. All students collaborate with experienced statistical researchers, transitioning from classroom learning to practical methodology application while developing independent research skills and project leadership confidence.
Medical Statistics Specialization
For students targeting careers in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or medical research, we offer a Medical Pathway featuring specialized modules in Clinical Trials, Epidemiology Principles, Multilevel/Longitudinal Data Analysis, and Survival/Event History Analysis - sectors where many of our graduates establish successful careers.
