The MA in Creative Writing with English Literary Studies allows you to blend creative and academic writing at an advanced level. You'll have the unique chance to be mentored by acclaimed, active writers like Jenn Ashworth, Zoe Lambert, and Eoghan Walls, who guide our well-established Creative Writing program, while immersing yourself in a dynamic literary community.

Throughout the course, you'll cultivate techniques for sparking new creative projects, investigate language patterns and storytelling frameworks, and deepen your understanding of literary styles and traditions. The program fosters the refinement of both analytical and imaginative abilities, promotes thoughtful self-evaluation, and teaches the craft of rewriting, polishing, and meticulous editing. You'll also explore how research informs creative writing as you develop your personal collection of creative and critical works.

A key component is the Research Training and Professional Practice module, where you'll investigate professional and ethical considerations in creative writing while strengthening your reflective practice. The curriculum offers four optional modules divided between Creative Writing and English Literary Studies, covering diverse literary areas and forms such as Psychogeographies, Short Stories, Poetry, Nature Writing, Personal Narratives, Audio Drama, along with Modern, Contemporary, Romantic, Victorian, and Renaissance Literature.
