The LLM in International Human Rights Law provides a chance to examine how global legal frameworks safeguard fundamental rights, allowing you to develop specialized knowledge in this expansive field. Through a combination of required and elective courses, you'll develop a comprehensive understanding of this legal domain from an international standpoint. The program is delivered by our research-focused faculty within the Law School, giving you access to instructors actively engaged in International Human Rights scholarship.
Our Law School houses several prominent research centers including the Centre for International Law and Human Rights, Centre for Crime, Law and Justice, the Centre for Law and Society, and the Centre for Child and Family Justice. These institutions inform our postgraduate curriculum, ensuring teaching is frequently guided by cutting-edge research.
The degree program consists of 6 course modules followed by a 15,000-word dissertation. While certain modules are mandatory, others can be selected from our range of specialized offerings.
Core components include International Law, International Human Rights Law, Legal Research Methods, and the LLM Dissertation. The International Law and International Human Rights Law courses examine crucial issues like how global legal systems define and protect human rights while governing relationships between nations. You'll analyze civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights enshrined in international agreements and investigate how these legal instruments influence our global society.
