Lancaster's Fine Art and Design program allows you to explore artistic creation while engaging with modern design approaches.

At Lancaster, Fine Art enables you to combine hands-on artistic work with theoretical art studies at an advanced level. Throughout your degree, from year one to graduation, you'll cultivate creative and technical abilities across various mediums including painting, sculpture, digital art, and mixed media. We embrace diverse interpretations of 21st-century art without favoring any particular style. Our focus lies in artistic practice and conceptual development. Students experiment with multiple forms including painting, sculpture, digital media, performance art, and interdisciplinary combinations. We support you in developing a personal artistic practice that aligns with your vision and principles as an emerging artist.

Lancaster's design philosophy showcases a department pioneering innovative design applications. Taught by prominent design researchers, the program extends beyond conventional fields like graphic or industrial design. You'll acquire skills in thorough design research to develop both physical and digital solutions for complex social challenges through design projects. The program also helps you build excellent visualization capabilities to inform design choices and present professional-quality design work.

Qualification Requirements

A Level ABB

IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in each component. TOEFL IBT - 87 overall, minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 17 in speaking and 20 in writing. Cambridge English: Advanced CAE 176 overall with at least 162 in each element.

Portfolio Applicants will be required to submit a portfolio before being made an offer. The department will contact applicants to request the portfolio. The portfolio should include imaginative, expressive and analytical work as well as objective drawing.

BTEC Distinction, Distinction, Merit

Foundation Courses Art Foundation Courses are not an essential requirement for this degree. Please note Foundation Courses are considered but not accepted in lieu of our academic entry requirements. Level 3 Art Foundation courses are considered on a case-by-case basis alongside two A levels at grade B or above.
