From verse to digital storytelling

Lancaster's Creative Writing program launched in 1970 with an innovative student-focused approach that still defines our teaching philosophy today, putting your individual creative development at the heart of every module.

You'll choose from diverse course options while dedicating 50% of your studies to creative writing. The curriculum covers classic formats like poetry collections, novels, and plays alongside contemporary forms such as digital narratives, memoirs, genre fiction, romantic comedies, travel writing, and young adult literature.

Qualification Requirements

A Level AAB
Required Subjects A level English Literature or A level English Language and Literature grade A
IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in each component. ToEFL IBT - 87 overall, minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 17 in speaking and 20 in writing. Cambridge English: Advanced CAE 176 overall with at least 162 in each element.

Sample of Work Applicants will typically be required to submit a sample piece of work. The department will contact applicants to provide further instruction and to request the work. The piece should consist of either: 1500 words of prose, 25 lines of poetry, or 8 pages of script.
