This four-year dual degree program merges the exploration of Chinese and French languages and cultures, along with their respective global spheres. Students will spend one year abroad in Chinese- or French-speaking nations, or divide their time between both. The curriculum equips learners with advanced linguistic abilities while fostering deep cultural understanding of Chinese and French societies in a worldwide framework.
Language and cultural studies are delivered through creative, interactive methods. Through initiatives like the Chinese Friendship Project, students experience language learning within authentic social settings. Past activities have featured excursions to Manchester's Chinatown, culinary workshops, film screenings, and traditional festival commemorations.
Alongside essential language courses, students can select from diverse specialized modules examining cultural, historical, and political aspects through comparative global perspectives.
First-year students complement their language studies with one additional module from related disciplines.
The second year continues with intensive Chinese and French language training (covering both oral and written components for each language), alongside core subjects and two elective modules.
Third-year students immerse themselves in Chinese- or French-speaking environments through study or work placements abroad. This transformative experience significantly enhances language skills while developing intercultural competence. Options include academic exchanges or professional internships, with joint majors having the flexibility to focus on one language region or divide their time between both.
