The BEng(Hons) in Aviation Engineering is tailored for undergraduates aiming to build a professional engineering career in aviation, with the goal of achieving Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status through the Royal Aeronautical Society. This program prepares graduates with essential knowledge, industry-relevant skills, and key attributes needed for careers in aircraft maintenance, airworthiness, aviation management, logistics, systems integration, design, support, and manufacturing. The school has a longstanding tradition of supplying skilled graduates to the aviation industry in Greater London, especially near Heathrow and Gatwick. During the first year, students gain core engineering knowledge and skills, establishing a strong base for advanced studies in year 2. Hands-on laboratory and workshop experiences are integral throughout the program. Many modules focus on enhancing employability skills, including communication, presentation, teamwork, planning, and project management. In year 2, students explore engineering principles behind aircraft technologies, covering aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, materials science, and aircraft performance. They also examine aircraft maintenance operations, systems, airworthiness, and air transport economics. Year 3 continues with deeper study of these specialized topics.
