This two-year MSc program is designed to help you become a skilled Prosthetist and Orthotist, capable of effectively assessing and treating patients to enhance their physical health. You'll acquire the essential knowledge, abilities, professional attitudes, and ethical principles that form the foundation of modern prosthetics and orthotics, while enhancing your proficiency in applying these skills to current clinical settings. The curriculum emphasizes clinical reasoning and evidence-based decision-making to ensure you deliver optimal care in collaboration with patients and healthcare teams. First-year modules concentrate on fundamental topics including professional growth in prosthetics and orthotics, along with clinical evaluation methods. You'll expand your knowledge of health education, preventive care strategies, and modifying health behaviors. The program covers the basics of designing, creating, and fitting prosthetic and orthotic devices, particularly for lower limb applications. You'll develop expertise in assessing and treating complex upper limb or spinal conditions while learning to critically evaluate healthcare practices and research evidence. Career preparation This qualification equips you with the capabilities needed for independent practice within the NHS, private sector, and global healthcare environments.
The curriculum fosters research literacy and its practical implementation in prosthetics/orthotics and broader healthcare contexts. It cultivates adaptability to change while building versatile skills for post-graduation employment. A Keele prosthetics and orthotics degree provides both clinical and research competencies, preparing you for professional autonomy across diverse settings including the NHS, private healthcare, occupational health, athletic performance sectors, and international healthcare systems.
Upon successful completion, this HCPC-approved program qualifies you for Health and Care Professions Council registration and authorization to use the protected Prosthetist/Orthotist titles.
2:2 degree in an anatomy, biology, biomechanics, biomedical sciences, health science, exercise and/or sports science, engineering, nursing, psychology, or physics subject

a 2/3 year Diploma in Prosthetics and Orthotics

IELTS: 7 with 6.5 in all components; TOEFL IBT (including Home): 95 with 22 in all components
