With exceptional flexibility and personalized mentorship at its core, this MRes adapts to your research objectives and professional goals. Graduates emerge with expertise in research methodology and design, coupled with the creative, analytical, and critical thinking skills valued across industries. The program also serves as excellent preparation for doctoral research.

From day one, you'll collaborate with an expert supervisor who will guide your intellectual and professional growth, helping refine your research focus while strengthening your academic writing and communication abilities.

Film Studies offers a dynamic, intellectually stimulating field that encourages imaginative engagement with global cinema across different eras, fostering advanced critical interpretation and argumentation skills.

The MRes Humanities (Film) pathway features instruction from globally-recognized scholars and industry professionals specializing in diverse areas including: cinematic history, television aesthetics, documentary production, short film techniques, mobility in cinema, social realism, and political dimensions of film. You'll cultivate transferable research, analytical, and communication competencies to advance your career or pursue further academic work.

Through the customized Individual Research Orientation module, you'll design a personalized development plan to acquire new knowledge and skills. Options include foreign language study, cross-disciplinary subjects like statistical analysis, or specialized training in historical document interpretation.

You may also pursue professional placements either through university connections or personal networks, with past students contributing to exhibition curation, archival projects, educational material assessment, and historical textbook analysis.
