PhD projects are available in Applied and Pure Mathematics, and Statistics. The broad areas of research in Applied Mathematics include fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, biomechanics and biomedical engineering, and are motivated by industrial and medical applications. OverviewThe Research Centre for Mathematics carries out world-class research in applied mathematics, pure mathematics, and statistics. Within applied mathematics, our research has three major themes: fluid dynamics and acoustics; solid mechanics; and biomechanics. A unifying aspect of our research is the theory of waves and stability in continuous media. This theory is of fundamental importance both in the development of new mathematical methods, and in explaining the world around us. Our research work has unlimited applications in engineering, biology, and medicine. UK student visa regulations mean that students classed as overseas for fees purposes may normally only register on a full-time basis, unless they are Distance Learners. Our research themesFluid Dynamics and AcousticsTheoretical Solid MechanicsMulti-scale modelling of nano and meta materialsBiomechanics and Biomedical EngineeringDiscrete MathematicsComputational Mathematics, Statistics, and Machine Learning
