The planet faces an extraordinary ecological emergency. Modern solutions like global standards, new institutions, and innovative practices have emerged to tackle pressing issues including climate shifts, species extinction, forest depletion, and cross-border contamination. This LLM program explores how international law shapes humanity's interaction with nature and connects environmental policies with other legal domains like commerce and civil liberties. Students will study diverse cross-border legal mechanisms – from green energy policies to hazardous waste management – aimed at preventing and addressing ecological threats.
Global legal frameworks have grown significantly in academic and professional relevance. From overseeing financial systems and safeguarding ecosystems to managing population flows and prosecuting wartime atrocities, international law now plays a pivotal role across multiple sectors.

Through this specialized LLM in International Law and Environmental Studies, you'll deepen your knowledge of ecological legislation, mastering how to utilize legal tools for conservation and ensure organizational compliance.

Keele's Law School enjoys global recognition as a hub for innovative, socially impactful legal scholarship addressing today's most urgent societal issues. Core research focuses encompass: Equity and Civil Liberties, Global and EU Legal Systems, Medical Ethics and Care, Legal Pedagogy and Innovation, Gender Studies and Sexuality Law.

Our diverse faculty expertise allows specialization in four key tracks: Corporate Law, Ecological Studies, Civil Rights, and Governance. This diversity also expands possibilities for interdisciplinary research, with previous student dissertations exploring subjects ranging from maritime law to extradition protocols.

Elective options extend beyond the Law School to include offerings from other departments like Keele's Business Faculty. Language studies are available too, including critical UN languages such as French, Russian, and Spanish.

Many participants cite the Geneva study tour as a program highlight, witnessing international policymaking, diplomatic negotiations, and humanitarian operations firsthand at institutions like the WTO, UN European offices, and ICRC.

Our lecture series frequently features distinguished international law practitioners. Previous guest speakers have included ICC Justice Sir Howard Morrison and ICJ's Dr. Vincent Jol Proulx, presenting on "Global Legal Prospects and Concerns" and "Transnational Security Threats and National Responsibility" respectively.
