Semiconductors, batteries, fuel cells, and catalysts play a vital role in achieving our sustainability goals and net zero targets by facilitating energy transportation, conversion, delivery, and storage across industrial applications. Our Chemistry with Materials Chemistry program, bridging Chemistry and Materials Science, offers comprehensive knowledge of both theoretical foundations and real-world uses of these materials. While building a solid base in core chemistry principles, you'll tackle contemporary challenges in materials science, developing the expertise required to drive sustainable innovation. The curriculum includes independent research projects, team-based learning, industry placements, and cutting-edge topic exploration—all mentored by globally recognized academics. In your initial two years, you'll master essential concepts in inorganic, organic, physical, and analytical chemistry through interactive lectures, workshops, and hands-on lab sessions featuring state-of-the-art computational tools and research equipment. Customize your education by selecting from advanced elective modules that reflect current chemical science breakthroughs. Assessment methods are designed to cultivate both specialized and transferable skills through diverse, practical tasks. You'll receive detailed, personalized feedback to enhance your learning experience. Your final year features an extensive research project aligned with your professional aspirations, complemented by a specialized literature review to either support your research or explore new materials chemistry domains. Graduates emerge as versatile materials chemists equipped with data analysis proficiency, materials design expertise, and practical implementation knowledge. Work Placements: To gain a competitive edge in today's job market, consider our optional industry placement between years two and three. This experience lets you apply academic knowledge in professional settings while developing workplace competencies with chemistry-focused organizations. International Year: Expand your global perspective through our exchange program with international partner institutions during your degree. This experience cultivates cross-cultural understanding and enhances career prospects. Foundation Year: Our preparatory year offers an alternative entry pathway, strengthening academic skills and subject knowledge while building confidence for undergraduate success—with guaranteed progression upon completion. Program Duration: 3 years standard | 4 years with international exchange or placement year
