From the outset of your studies, you'll develop strong computational problem-solving abilities, programming expertise, and core mathematical knowledge to prepare for advanced learning. You'll also delve into forensic science basics as a professional field, examining crime scenes and common forensic evidence types. The curriculum covers essential evidence collection techniques, protocols, and methodologies across various forensic environments, while demonstrating how forensic science integrates with the UK legal framework - emphasizing ethical practice, professional integrity, and digital competencies. As you progress, you'll investigate cutting-edge developments in data science, AI, and software engineering. Your digital forensics expertise will grow through studying investigation principles, evidence collection procedures, analytical tools, and the examination of operating systems, mobile devices, internet technologies, and relevant legislation. Practical application comes through simulated crime scenes where you'll collect digital evidence using industry-standard software. The program emphasizes hands-on learning through realistic scenarios. You can gain professional experience through year-long or modular placements, develop career-ready skills, or pursue individual interests via personalized computing projects. Customize your degree by selecting from diverse optional modules, allowing you to either broaden your horizons or specialize in preferred subjects. Your final year culminates in an ambitious research project where you'll apply theoretical knowledge and problem-solving abilities to a significant digital forensics challenge - whether technical, software-based, research-oriented, or business-focused. This capstone project demonstrates your mastery of experimental design, data analysis, presentation techniques, and project coordination. You'll further specialize through optional modules while deepening your chosen area of expertise. Work Placements With today's competitive employment landscape, companies value candidates possessing advanced knowledge, practical skills, and workplace awareness. Between your second and third years, you can undertake a placement to gain hands-on experience, applying academic theories to real-world industry situations while boosting your career prospects. You'll receive guidance from both an academic advisor and a dedicated placements manager from the School of Computer Science and Mathematics. Program Duration: 3 years (or 4 years with international study/placement year)
