Keele's Education and History program examines the development of education through time, current issues in the field, and professional practices ranging from policymaking to classroom instruction. Students will investigate significant historical moments and trace the roots of major developments while examining the underlying factors that drive historical transformation. This dual-subject approach broadens career opportunities across multiple sectors by strengthening analytical thinking and communication abilities. The program investigates fundamental aspects of learning including policy, pedagogy, and practical application, while simultaneously studying the social, economic, political, and cultural factors that have influenced world history. As part of this joint honors course, students will participate in debates about psychological, social, and cultural impacts on education and their potential future developments. Participants will examine critical challenges in teaching and learning across various educational stages, from elementary to secondary levels. The curriculum emphasizes critical assessment of education's personal significance and explores key questions regarding educators' roles and obligations. Students will study child learning processes and evaluate modern evaluation techniques, considering variables like student age, support systems in different learning environments, and technology's growing educational importance. This combined degree fosters understanding of educational sector operations, including student-teacher interactions and professional collaboration. Students will analyze teaching methodologies and investigate classroom dynamics and learning behaviors. Keele's History component connects students with specialist academics across diverse historical fields and eras. Through examining various historical themes, students enhance their knowledge, critical analysis, and research capabilities, learning to evaluate evidence and reflect on pivotal historical events. The program develops both independent and collaborative working skills, enabling students to critically assess information from multiple sources. Work Placement Opportunities: The School of Social Sciences offers optional placement modules for professional development, potentially including teaching experience in primary, secondary, and special needs education settings. These placements allow observation and classroom assistance, building practical skills alongside education professionals and learners at different developmental stages. The university maintains strong connections with local schools for valuable hands-on experience. The foundation year serves as an alternative entry pathway to Keele, preparing students for undergraduate study while guaranteeing progression upon successful completion. This additional year strengthens academic capabilities, expands subject knowledge, enhances understanding of higher education, and importantly, builds student confidence.
