This program equips you with analytical and quantitative skills valuable for diverse careers in economics and other fields. Our approach to teaching economics is technically rigorous, with econometrics—using statistical methods to analyze data and estimate economic models—forming a core part of the curriculum. The first two years focus on compulsory units in macroeconomics, microeconomics, mathematics, statistics, and econometrics, establishing a solid foundation that you'll expand upon in your final year.
You'll enhance this core knowledge by selecting optional modules from a broad range offered by the School of Economics, the University of Bristol Business School, and other university departments. As you advance through the program, the selection of optional units grows, enabling you to specialize in areas of economics that align with your interests.
In your final year, all students undertake an applied economics dissertation, providing hands-on research experience. You'll also choose from an extensive list of optional units, which in recent years have included Behavioral Economics, Data Science, Corporate Finance, Development Economics, Environmental Economics, International Economics, and Operations Management.
