The MSc in Food Process Engineering enables you to enhance your expertise in chemical engineering, process engineering, food science, or biology, tailored specifically for the food and beverage industry. Through this program, you'll study fundamental principles in chemical engineering, process engineering, brewing, distilling, bioscience, and biology, preparing you for a successful career in food process engineering. You'll apply engineering principles to address the unique challenges of food production while developing a diverse skill set. The curriculum covers sustainability challenges in food manufacturing and teaches innovative approaches to solving these issues. Your studies will encompass food and beverage biotechnology, processing techniques, chemistry, toxicology, microbiology, nutrition, and biochemistry, along with examining new food innovations and production life cycles. Through the Future Foods module and your Dissertation project, you'll specialize in a particular area through independent research. In addition to technical knowledge, you'll collaborate with faculty and classmates to build essential professional skills including teamwork, communication, time management, career development, and interview preparation. Graduating from this program provides comprehensive knowledge of food industry requirements, equipping you with understanding of core principles, methodologies, and emerging trends to succeed in your post-graduation career.
A minimum of honours degree at 2:2 or non-UK equivalent in a related subject. Suitable degrees can include chemical engineering, chemistry, biosciences/technology, agriculture, food engineering or cognate discipline. If your degree does not contain mathematics or chemistry content, we hope to see this evidenced through alternative means such as secondary school certificate. Non-relevant degrees will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If your first language is not English, we'll need to see evidence of your English language ability. The minimum English language requirement for entry to this programme is IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with no score lower than 5.5.
