The five-year MEng Software Engineering program is an integrated Masters degree that expands on the core concepts learned in the first three years of the BSc Computer Science curriculum. This course provides students with critical professional competencies for creating reliable and secure systems, delivering a thorough education in software engineering principles. The initial three years focus on fundamental computer science topics, establishing a strong base for specialized software engineering studies. The program balances theoretical foundations with practical implementation, ensuring students can tackle industry challenges effectively. In year four, students transition to specialized training focused on building secure, resilient systems. This advanced phase prioritizes experiential learning, enabling students to implement their knowledge in real-world contexts while mastering industry methodologies. The fifth year features a paid industry placement, giving students professional experience with leading companies. Past participants have worked with organizations like Skyscanner, Leonardo, Cadence, BlackRock, and Satalia. Year 1 Standard entry requirements - Highers AAAB (including Mathematics at B). A-Levels BBC – ABB (including Mathematics at B). Int. Baccalaureate 28 points (with Mathematics at Higher Level 5). BTEC DDM (including sufficient Mathematics). HNC B in graded unit (including sufficient Mathematics). Please check that you meet our University-wide National 5/GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths requirements. Year 1 Minimum entry requirements - Highers BBBC (including Mathematics at B). A-Levels BCC (including Mathematics at B). Year 2 - Advanced Highers BBB (including Mathematics and Computing plus excellent Highers). A-Levels ABB (including Mathematics and Computing). Int. Baccalaureate 30 points (with Mathematics and Computing at Higher Level 6). HNC A in graded unit (including sufficient Mathematics and Computing). HND AB in graded units (including sufficient Mathematics and Computing). BTEC DDM (including sufficient Mathematics and Computing). Global College Successful completion of our Technology with Accelerator Programme. The minimum English language requirement for entry to this programme is IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with no score lower than 5.5. TOEFL iBT - 79 (Reading 18, Listening 17, Speaking 20, Writing 21).
