Heriot-Watt University secured the top position in Scotland and ranked 4th across the UK for Electrical and Electronic Engineering according to the Times and Sunday Times 2021 rankings. This discipline plays a crucial role in modern life, powering everything from mobile devices and home electronics to industrial robotics and energy infrastructure. The MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a comprehensive five-year program that follows the same curriculum as the BEng degree for the initial three years. The curriculum covers diverse subjects ranging from microelectronics to large-scale power systems. After completing year 3, eligible students transition to the MEng program for two additional years of advanced study.
In years 4 and 5, students engage with master's-level technical coursework with expanded focus on engineering management principles. The program includes a six-month industry placement during the summer following year 4, continuing through the first semester of the final year. The Research Institute of Signals, Sensors and Systems (ISSS) serves as one of five key research centers within the School of Engineering & Physical Sciences (EPS). ISSS specializes in cutting-edge research areas including digital signal processing, advanced manufacturing techniques, microsystems technology, microwave engineering, wireless communication systems, and autonomous technologies.
