Our Dedicated Games Studio The program features exclusive access to our custom-designed Games Studio within the £19 million GRID innovation hub. This cutting-edge facility boasts state-of-the-art development equipment for creating console and virtual reality experiences. With few universities globally offering such design-focused programs, our studio delivers a distinctive blend of practical studio instruction, technical expertise, and cross-disciplinary entrepreneurial training in game production. Year 2 entry requires competency in programming languages like Java, C#, or C++, along with strong mathematical skills. Potential career paths in gaming include: Game Developer: Creates the programming architecture for video games Game Designer: Establishes core mechanics, gameplay systems, and player progression UX/UI Designer: Optimizes player interaction and interface design Graphics Engineer: Builds foundational rendering systems for modern games Game Producer: Oversees development timelines and budgets Narrative Designer: Develops storylines and in-game storytelling AI Programmer: Implements intelligent systems for non-player characters
Year 1 - Standard entry requirements: Highers ABBB (including Mathematics), A-Levels BBC (Including Maths at B) , Int. Baccalaureate 28 points (with Mathematics at Higher Level 5), BTEC DDM (including sufficient Mathematics), HNC B in graded unit (including sufficient Mathematics). Our minimum requirements will apply if you live in an area within the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation lowest 20% (SIMD20), or are care experienced)- Highers BBBC (including Mathematics at B), A-Levels BCC (including Mathematics at B). Year 2: Advanced Highers BBB (including Mathematics and Computing plus excellent Highers), A-Levels ABB (including Mathematics and Computing), Int. Baccalaureate 30 points (with Mathematics and Computing at Higher Level 6), HNC A in graded unit (including sufficient Mathematics and Computing), HND AB in graded units (including sufficient Mathematics and Computing), BTEC DDM (including sufficient Mathematics and Computing). Good maths background required. For all years, applications are welcomed from holders of non-school qualifications, mature candidates and overseas students. Check that you meet our University-wide National 5/GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths requirements. IELTS Academic 6.0 with no score lower than 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79 (including reading 18, listening 17, speaking 20, and writing 21).
