For those passionate about mathematics seeking to fast-track their Actuarial career while gaining valuable work experience, this program is ideal. It merges the academic rigor of the BSc Actuarial Science degree with a year-long industry placement in your fourth year. Actuarial professions rank among the UK's most rewarding careers, offering intellectual challenges, competitive salaries, flexible schedules, and outstanding employment opportunities. Actuaries utilize their quantitative expertise to tackle intricate business challenges related to risk assessment, spanning traditional insurance and pension sectors as well as emerging fields like healthcare, technology, banking, finance, and environmental sustainability. With 30% of our faculty being practicing actuaries, you'll acquire cutting-edge industry insights and practical skills relevant to today's economic landscape. The placement year provides hands-on experience at organizations ranging from life insurers and pension consultancies to investment firms and banks. Successful completion of the placement earns you a Diploma in Industrial Training, enabling you to translate academic theory into practice while developing professional competencies, teamwork abilities, and workplace adaptability. This diploma is accessible to international students without requiring a work visa, though those on student visas should verify placement eligibility under Tier 4 regulations. While our Career Service offers support, securing a placement remains your responsibility, and non-placement students can transfer to the standard BSc program. Recent placement partners include Deloitte, Allianz, Royal London, and other leading firms. The program's flexible structure allows transfers to related mathematical or statistical degrees during the initial two years.
