The BEng (Hons) Engineering program offers a distinctive chance to explore various engineering fields, helping you identify your preferred specialization before deciding whether to switch to the second year of one of Heriot-Watt's engineering degrees or continue with the BSc (Hons) Combined Studies for a more personalized academic journey. This one-year course enables you to craft a tailored learning path while discovering the diverse engineering disciplines available at Heriot-Watt. You can take modules in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, Electrical, Civil and Structural, and Architectural Engineering to determine which field best suits your skills, passions, and career aspirations. Working closely with the director of studies, you'll design a curriculum that aligns with your objectives, selecting eight courses that reflect your interests—often focusing on two or three engineering areas. The program's interdisciplinary nature equips you with adaptable, practical skills and knowledge, preparing you for post-graduation success. Thanks to its broad scope, students who complete this one-year engineering foundation before choosing either the BSc Combined Studies or a specialized degree tend to achieve higher pass rates, better graduate outcomes, and superior degree classifications compared to those in discipline-specific programs. You'll acquire fundamental science and engineering knowledge, which you can then refine based on your interests. By aligning your studies with industry demands in your desired field, you'll enhance your employability, demonstrating the career-oriented focus of your chosen courses.
