Our BA (Hons) Design for Textiles (Fashion, Interior, Art) program equips you with specialized skills in creating original fabric designs for diverse applications. You'll cultivate your unique creative style while learning to articulate it through multiple mediums. The curriculum emphasizes material knowledge, technical innovation, comprehensive design methodology, and sustainable practices to address contemporary global and local challenges. This program blends creative originality with technical proficiency, preparing graduates to enter the industry as impactful contributors. Alumni have secured roles as designers across various sectors including fashion textiles, home furnishings, accessories, wall coverings, art installations, stationery, and sustainable textile innovation, along with careers in trend forecasting and textile education. Through a balanced approach of traditional techniques and modern technologies, you'll gain expertise in knitted, woven, and printed textiles, digital design tools, marketing strategies, and eco-conscious practices. This comprehensive training prepares you to tackle real-world design challenges and meet industry demands, significantly enhancing your career prospects. In your third year, you can focus on print, weave, or knit disciplines while undertaking either an industry placement or collaborative project. Our faculty assists with placement opportunities and project guidance, helping you gain practical experience and professional connections. International opportunities include study exchanges with prestigious institutions worldwide and optional trips to major fashion/textile events. Your final year centers on an independent textile project where you'll demonstrate advanced skills through creative execution and critical analysis. The program culminates in our Graduate Showcase and typically participation in New Designers London, attracting industry professionals. Year 1: Standard entry requirements - Highers ABBB (over two sittings), A-Levels BCC – BBB, International Baccalaureate 29 points, BTEC Extended Diploma DMM, HNC C in graded unit, HND CC in graded units, Check that you meet our University-wide National 5/GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths requirements. Our minimum requirements will apply if you: live in an area within the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation lowest 20% (SIMD20) or are care experienced) - Highers BBBC (over two sittings), A-Levels BCC, International Baccalaureate 29 points, BTEC Extended Diploma DMM, HNC C in graded unit, HND CC in graded units. Year 2 –  Advanced Highers ABB (plus ABBB at Higher), A-Levels ABB, International Baccalaureate 30 points, BTEC Extended Diploma DMM in a relevant subject, HNC B in graded unit with 120 SCQF credit points in a Textiles relevant subject, HND BB in graded units in a Textiles relevant subject. Year 3: HND Textiles BB in graded units. The minimum English language requirement for entry to this programme is IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with no score lower than 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79 (including reading 18, listening 17, speaking 20, and writing 21).
