The Master of Design (M.Des) in Sound for the Moving Image enables postgraduate students to explore the artistry and technical aspects of sound production for film, animation, television, digital media, video games, and visual arts, while providing the necessary skills to conduct research in this domain. This program encourages the creation of innovative work—whether individual or collaborative—that is conceptually rich, aesthetically bold, and diverse in its application of sound design and music composition/production. Instruction occurs through hands-on workshops, assigned and optional projects, lectures, seminars, and independent study. Central to the program's philosophy is the dynamic relationship between creative expression and theoretical inquiry, facilitated by the technical components of sound production in visual contexts. Participants must demonstrate strong initiative in self-guided learning, research, and critical analysis, alongside active involvement in structured coursework.
