Aeronautical engineering focuses on the design, construction, and power systems of aircraft, along with their operational use and safety controls. You'll engage in hands-on lab work, such as conducting jet engine tests and participating in a fifth-year flight-testing course aboard a Saab 340B aircraft. Collaborative aeronautical group design projects are conducted with BAe Systems on actual aircraft initiatives. The program provides access to cutting-edge experimental facilities that are part of the UK National Wind Tunnel Facility. In their final year, students complete a six-month placement in industry, at an international university, or within the University of Glasgow's research centers. The curriculum holds accreditation from both the Royal Aeronautical Society and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Multiple engineering student organizations are available, including JetX, Design-Build-Fly, and University of Glasgow Racing (UGR).
