Our department oversees PhD, MPhil, and Masters by Research programs, with the diverse research projects reflecting our interdisciplinary approach.
Graduate researchers form an essential part of our academic environment. We guide students in PhD, MPhil, and Masters by Research programs, with our department's interdisciplinary character evident in the wide-ranging research initiatives. Our postgraduate scholars operate within and between fields such as sociology, psychology, physiology, nutrition, and political science. These investigations examine sport, exercise, and physical activity, bridging theoretical concepts, policy development, and practical applications. Collaboratively, we investigate the connections between physical activity, sports, and aspects of wellbeing, health, and social equity. Financial support for students originates from various channels, including research council grants (ESRC, AHRC) and NIHR scholarships. Our research incorporates diverse academic viewpoints from sociology, psychology, physiology, political science, and nutrition. Through this work, we examine and question traditional assumptions about the relationships between sports, physical activity, and their impacts on health, wellbeing, and societal fairness.
