The Durham Master of Data Science program delivers cutting-edge data science education within an encouraging academic setting, guided by active researchers who drive innovation across diverse sectors.
Data permeates every aspect of modern life - from surveillance systems and space communications to smartphones, residences, vehicles, and professional settings. Simultaneously, technological advancements have democratized data science, presenting unprecedented opportunities to understand human-environment interactions. This evolution has sparked a surge in demand for qualified data science professionals, with projections indicating continued growth.
In response to this need, we've developed our Master of Data Science as a conversion program that enables graduates from non-quantitative disciplines (including social sciences, arts, and humanities) to launch careers in data science. The curriculum provides comprehensive training in data acquisition, processing, analysis, and visualization, along with practical application skills.
Starting with foundational modules, the program advances to sophisticated modern methodologies like neural networks and deep learning to broaden your expertise. Students can customize their learning through our wide selection of elective modules focused on specialized interests.
The program concludes with a capstone research project, where students conduct an intensive investigation into a chosen topic, applying their acquired skills to solve real-world data science challenges.
