The Master of Arts in Research Methods (Developmental Psychology) is an ESRC-recognized program offered by the Social Sciences & Health Faculty, where multiple university departments collaborate to provide a customized curriculum examining human development through a research-focused approach.
This program mainly targets students aiming to advance to PhD studies in developmental psychology or pursue careers as research psychologists. It also benefits those interested in applied fields like clinical or educational psychology.
Aspiring research psychologists require advanced postgraduate research skills. Consequently, research methodology training, organized by the Durham Research Methods Centre, constitutes a core component of the MA program, covering both quantitative and qualitative techniques. The dissertation, accounting for one-third of the course, can focus on any psychology topic related to development. Course modules combine general and specialized elements, introducing key concepts and methodological frameworks in developmental psychology and social sciences.
