Durham's LLM in Medical Law and Ethics delves into some of the most complex and sensitive aspects of healthcare practice and scientific advancement, while enhancing your expertise in legal and ethical domains of increasing importance. Designed by leading experts who both teach the program and help shape legal policies, this course offers a comprehensive learning experience.
Although primarily offered through the School of Law, the program allows you to take modules from other departments, providing a well-rounded understanding of pertinent legal and ethical considerations.
Students also gain from the academic excellence of Durham's Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences. Enrolled students join this dynamic research community and can participate in its diverse events and initiatives.
The first two terms focus on specialized modules covering various topics, followed by a dissertation phase where students research a medical law subject of their choice under expert faculty supervision.
Interdisciplinary module options span diverse fields such as 19th-century literary representations of disability, global health anthropology, and philosophical debates in science and medicine.
Instruction combines lectures with interactive seminar discussions, led by faculty actively engaged in relevant research. The self-directed dissertation component complements this structure.
