Exploring the mechanisms that shape Earth's surface, our natural resources, hazards, water systems, and renewable energy helps us comprehend how environmental shifts—both historical and current—affect our world. These insights enable us to forecast trends and create strategies to safeguard communities and the planet's future against contemporary global issues.
Our adaptable Geoscience program empowers you to take charge of your education, providing core foundations while offering growing specialization options as you advance, letting you tailor your studies to your interests.
Merging academic rigor with pioneering research, this program prepares you for diverse career paths such as mineral and petroleum exploration, engineering geology, environmental consulting, hydrogeology, GIS applications, geological surveys, or advanced academic research. The quantitative reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities honed through this course are also highly transferable to fields beyond geology, including education, business leadership, insurance, accounting, and financial services.
The first year establishes essential Earth Sciences knowledge. In Year 2, the focus shifts to geological specialization, deepening your expertise in igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary, and tectonic processes. Year 3 involves a geological research project and advanced study in chosen specialty areas, with optional field-based learning experiences.
You may have the option to transition to the four-year MSci in Earth Sciences after your second year. Additionally, you can apply to incorporate a professional placement year, extending your program from three to four years.
