Pursuing a BA in Philosophy and Politics will help you cultivate critical thinking abilities and understand the workings of political theories, institutions, and societies. You'll acquire valuable skills from both disciplines that are sought after by employers, such as evaluating evidence, scrutinizing expert viewpoints, collaborating to tackle complex challenges, and communicating effectively.
Instead of merely absorbing established knowledge, the philosophy component will train you in logical reasoning to construct, articulate, defend, and critique various philosophical and political viewpoints.
The politics curriculum focuses on three key areas: Political Thought, Political Institutions, and International Relations. Alongside honing your research capabilities, you can explore the political dynamics and international affairs of particular regions. The program includes theoretical analyses that provide tools for navigating our intricate, interconnected global landscape. You may also opt to extend the three-year program to four years by adding a placement year or studying abroad.
Since philosophy is unfamiliar to many undergraduates, your first year will feature introductory courses covering essential philosophical concepts.
During your second year, you'll expand your understanding through two mandatory modules - Moral Theory and Political Philosophy - while selecting from numerous optional courses across both fields.
Your final year culminates with a dissertation, offering an opportunity for in-depth, self-directed research into a subject of your choosing.
