This Joint Honours program allows you to blend Ancient History courses from the Classics and Ancient History Department with Archaeology Department offerings. While maintaining a roughly equal balance, you'll have multiple chances to focus on your specific interests in either or both fields as you advance. Your final dissertation offers another opportunity to specialize in an area that sparks your curiosity.
During your first year, you'll explore ancient Greek civilization and early Imperial Rome through diverse viewpoints (not solely historical) and various types of evidence. This foundation prepares you for more specialized historical modules examining ancient political systems and societies.
This interdisciplinary approach provides a broader understanding of these connected fields, enabling you to thoroughly investigate the relationship between archaeological findings and their historical settings.
The program includes an optional international study component, where you can spend your third year (in a four-year track) at a European university. Additionally, you can gain practical experience by choosing to incorporate a placement year into your studies.
