Biomedical Science professionals play a vital role in healthcare – pathology lab scientists deliver 70% of diagnostic results used by the NHS. When studying Biomedical Science, you'll investigate how modern scientific methods are applied to improve human health.
This dynamic and expanding discipline covers diverse biomedical subjects, from organ systems and diseases to molecular biology. The program equips you with analytical research skills, deepens your understanding of disease diagnosis and treatment, and lets you apply theoretical knowledge in practical clinical laboratory environments.
The curriculum addresses critical health issues including infectious diseases, cancer, and cardiovascular conditions, culminating in a final year specializing in clinical laboratory practice guided by industry experts. You'll conduct self-directed research projects with academic supervision, exploring subjects from Alzheimer's to emerging viruses.
An optional placement year in clinical or industrial labs is available. Our IBMS-accredited program allows placement students to obtain HCPC registration, essential for NHS Biomedical Scientist roles.
