This initiative focuses on producing eco-conscious fabrics using renewable natural polymers including cellulose, chitin, alginate, and chitosan. These materials are sourced from plentiful natural reserves such as agricultural byproducts and marine waste (like crab and shrimp shells). The resulting sustainable fabrics will serve the environmentally friendly apparel and fashion sector. While cellulose, chitin, chitosan, and alginate rank among the most plentiful and renewable polymers with strong mechanical characteristics, their widespread adoption has been hindered by the significant environmental impact caused by toxic solvents used in extraction and processing methods.
