Art, space, and urban environments explore how creative expression can foster improved communal living. Combining diverse disciplines—urban studies, media analysis, black scholarship, geography, activism, design, and architecture—we develop democratic approaches to envision citizen-centered cities. Through cultural interventions, we engage with urban spaces and their inhabitants, guided by transformative ideas that shape our perspective on art and urbanism. Our framework incorporates: art theory, commons philosophy, public discourse studies, ecological systems, decolonial thought, sustainable urbanism, and alternative care networks. The CPC examines how data-centric urbanization transforms cities through the collection and analysis of personal information. We highlight both community-driven resistance (like our Pirate Care initiatives) and humanities-based urban reimagining that counters surveillance-based economic models (seen in many smart city projects). The Center pioneers innovative approaches to social sustainability, constructs new support systems, and investigates cooperative lifestyles—all aimed at redefining human connections through grassroots urban transformation.
