The Centre for Dance Research (C-DaRE), situated in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, is directed by Professor Sarah Whatley. It focuses on a comprehensive interdisciplinary methodology for various artistic and academic dance studies, enhanced by innovative techniques for recording, examining, and sharing choreographic works.
C-DaRE pioneers cutting-edge research areas such as reflective studies of physical practices, collaborative and activist initiatives, digital transformation, cultural significance, and the broader choreographic domain. Furthermore, C-DaRE examines and evaluates legal structures that can strengthen and advocate for the dance community. Our primary research areas include:
documenting, sharing, and publishing dance
safeguarding cultural heritage
choreographic methods and body-based techniques
digital dance and technology research
motion and computational studies
cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural approaches
diversity and collaborative practices
analytical perspectives and performance theory
