Our PhD/MPhil program in International Politics offers you the opportunity to conduct in-depth research on pressing global challenges such as political economy, societal transformation, and international policy. At City, our International Politics research initiative embraces a broad perspective with interdisciplinary emphasis and extensive external collaborations. You'll benefit from specialized guidance across diverse areas including global relations, diplomatic studies, political comparison, modern history, and world political economy. These focus areas will support you in developing and executing your research project. You'll join a vibrant, contemporary research environment through engagement with our Department's specialized centers: the Centre for International Policy Studies, the City Political Economy Research Centre, and the Centre for Modern History. Qualification Requirements

Applicants should have a track record of high academic achievement, demonstrated by a good undergraduate degree with at least a second class (upper division) pass or equivalent, plus a good Masters-level degree with at least a pass with merit (or equivalent). For students whose first language is not English, the following qualifications will meet the English language requirements for entry to a postgraduate course of study: A first degree from a UK university or from the CNAA. A first degree from an overseas institution recognised by City as providing adequate evidence of proficiency in the English language, for example, from institutions in Australia, Canada or the USA. GCE O-level/GCSE English language or English literature, grade C minimum. An overall score of 7.0 in the English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum of 6.5 for each subtest. Other evidence of proficiency in the English language which satisfies the Board of Studies concerned. TOEFL: We require a well-balanced overall score of at least 100 and no less than 25 in the Writing section.
