The Centre for Cultural and Creative Industries boasts a distinguished legacy of globally recognized research and academic excellence, standing as one of the world's earliest hubs for specialized study in this domain. As a doctoral researcher in the Cultural and Creative Industries PhD/MPhil program, you'll become part of an intellectually diverse, highly skilled international research network. The program spans multiple disciplines including sociology, geography, economic development, cultural studies, and policy analysis. The doctoral journey culminates with candidates presenting their original research through a comprehensive thesis, followed by an oral defense (viva voce) evaluated by two examiners, with at least one external to City University. Study durations vary: Full-time: 2–4 years Part-time: 4–7 years PhD by prior publication: 1 year

Qualification Requirements

Candidates should normally have or be expecting an upper second or first class degree in any related discipline. We also expect a Master's degree or equivalent with the dissertation component marked at Distinction level (70+). However, we also welcome applications from mature students with substantial research experience. Candidates can be considered for a PhD by Prior Publication. Examples of this include a degree from a British university or a minimum overall score of 7.5 and no less than 7.0 in any of the subtests (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) administered by the British Council. TOEFL: We require a well-balanced overall score of at least 100 and no less than 25 in the Writing section.
