This program is designed to cultivate graduates with comprehensive expertise in the Welsh language, encompassing both academic knowledge and practical application, along with its literature and cultural context. Students will develop advanced written and verbal communication abilities, as well as valuable employability and creative competencies tailored to contemporary Welsh society. With the Welsh Government's ambitious goal of achieving one million Welsh speakers by 2050, the need for professionals with this specialized knowledge has never been higher. Mastering Welsh at a professional level makes graduates particularly appealing to employers, opening doors to diverse and impactful careers that can shape Wales' linguistic, cultural, and economic landscape. The three-year curriculum offers distinct pathways: one for native Welsh speakers and another for those who learned Welsh as a second language. While first-year instruction is largely separate, students merge for most second-year modules before fully integrating in the final year. The program combines essential foundational courses with elective options, allowing students to build core linguistic and literary skills while pursuing specialized interests. Second-year students also benefit from work placement opportunities to enhance their professional capabilities and self-assurance.
