Biomedicine represents a specialized field of study available within our comprehensive Biosciences research programs (PhD, MPhil, MD). This discipline examines the molecular foundations of physiological functions, disease processes, and mechanisms of healing and tissue regeneration. Our Division boasts diverse expertise encompassing biochemistry, cellular biology, genetic research, and cellular communication pathways. Research teams investigate various biological systems using both living organisms and laboratory models, complementing human cell line studies with research on model organisms like mice and Xenopus. The Division benefits from substantial funding and state-of-the-art facilities supporting a wide array of methodologies. We maintain strong collaborations with prominent institutions including The European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute, Cardiff Institute of Tissue Engineering and Repair (CITER), the Arthritis Research UK Biomechanics and Bioengineering Centre, and the Cardiff CR-UK Cancer Centre, along with numerous international academic and corporate partners.
Program durations: PhD: 3-4 years, MD: 2 years, MPhil: 1-2 years
