The MSc in Data-Intensive Astrophysics equips students with essential skills for careers in academic research, technical roles, and engineering positions within the growing Big Data sector and related scientific disciplines. This program merges data analysis and computational methods with core scientific principles, addressing the rising need for highly skilled graduates capable of tackling challenges in this dynamic field. Big Data has already generated thousands of new jobs in the UK, with further growth expected as data-driven approaches revolutionize public, private, and academic sectors. The course is taught by experts from our Data Innovation Research Institute, a center dedicated to advancing research in managing, analyzing, and interpreting large-scale textual and numerical datasets. A highlight of the program is a 3-month summer project, conducted either within our School of Physics and Astronomy or with external partners. This project applies contemporary data science techniques to astrophysical challenges—such as star formation, galaxy evolution, or gravitational waves—offering practical experience crucial for success in Data-Intensive Astrophysics and broader data science applications.
